Welcome to Week 7

Good morning parents,

Welcome to Week 7, it is shaping up to be a busy one!

REMINDERS - WEEK 7

The Little Mermaid Musical - Rehearsals are going well and the kids are feeling really comfortable. It has been great to see them getting the chance to try their costumes on and practice with the microphones.

There is a few colds, sore throats and coughs going around at the moment so if your child is unwell please keep them home for a day or two to help them to be at their best for next week!

Father's Day Breakfast - Is on this Friday morning, 1st September. Please make sure that you have RSVP'd . They are still calling for helpers if you can spare the time.

Shoebox Appeal - Just a reminder that you need to send in a personal hygiene item, something special (small teddy etc.) and $2.50 as soon as possible.

Absentee Notes - I have sent home absentee notes with your child. Please make sure that you have filled them in with a reason for their absence, your signature and date. These are a legal document and are required by the school as soon as possible after your child has returned to school.

OUR LEARNING

The students have completed their first modeled Information Report and are now busy creating fact files full of information about their pets!

We have been focusing on Reading Comprehension for a large part of the term and we have been discussing all of the skills and strategies that we employ when we are reading. These skills and strategies such as skimming and scanning, making connections to prior knowledge, clarifying and inferring help us to better understand what it is that we are reading.

We have been looking at addition and subtraction of decimals in Maths and have just moved onto looking at how to multiply decimals by whole numbers. This is a useful link for anyone that maybe helping their child with this at home.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 7

Reading - 10-15 minutes written in their diary and signed.

Spelling - LCWC for all list words. Please make sure their work is being done neatly.

Mental Maths - Unit 24 of Think Mentals Book 6 - Pages 73-75 including the Think Box activity.

Year Books -  This is due Week 6 of Term 4 and will be worked on in class during our musical rehearsals and at home.

All homework is due in on Friday morning - please make sure that your child has brought you their diary to sign each day and that all homework has been completed.

There is an expectation next year that those students attending St Mary MacKillop will be familiar with their planner. This is their diary that will go with them to every class and is where they write all notes and homework.

This is why I am working with students on utilising their diary for their personal organisation.

Have a great week,

Mrs Delane
