Term 1, Week 6
Hi Parents and
students,
What an
absolute cracker of a public holiday! Well worth heading out doors and catching
some rays! I hope you are all ready for a shortened week.
Affirmation of the Week:
Peron Reserve:
On Friday
afternoon, the Year 6 students will be involved in an outing to Peron Reserve.
It has been a tradition of OLC that the Year 6 students help with the upkeep of
the viewing platform and learn about the native flora and fauna.
A note will be
sent home on Wednesday, with more information. This note will require your
signature and needs to be returned to myself by Friday.
Camp:
It is getting
to that time of year when we need to start talking about the ‘C’ word. That’s
right! Camp has been booked for Tuesday
29th May – Friday 1st June and I am seeking 4 parents
(2 male and 2 female) to volunteer their time and accompany the class for the 4
days and 3 nights.
The successful
applicants will possess the following attributes:
1.
Fun and outgoing
2.
Great with kids
3.
Ability to take part in all activities
(some physical)
4.
Good with crowd control
5.
Owner of a Working With Children Card
(current)
6.
Can supervise small groups with rostered
jobs
7.
Appreciates and makes a great coffee or is
possibly involved in an early morning coffee run (experience a must)
Literacy:
Under
this section you will find the literacy learning intentions for the week.
CAFÉ-R
(Traits of good readers)
The comprehension
strategy we will be focusing on this week is summarising. Summarising is when
readers determine the important ideas in a text and tell it in their own words.
Summarising is a complex strategy that calls upon a variety of skills including
determining key ideas, logically ordering those ideas and paraphrasing.
Voices (Traits of good writers)
We are
currently writing the excellent ending to our narrative. Once this has been
completed our focus will be that I take pride in my writing by revising and
editing. The students have been given a checklist bookmark to help them with
the editing process.
All students
have received a rubric, which is aligned to the ‘VOICES’ framework and this
will act as a checklist to ensure we are including all the elements of a great
narrative. A copy of this rubric can be found via our Literacy OneNote folder.
Spelling Group’s weekly focus
Due to the shortened week, I have decided not to
introduce any new words within our different spelling groups. Instead, we will
focus on 5 – 10 words from our interesting new words wall.
Numeracy
Under
this section you will find the Numeracy learning intentions for the week.
Again, due to
the shortened week, rather than introducing a new concept, we will be reviewing
place value and time. The students will be required to apply their learning to
complete a range of real life problems.
Home Learning Grid:
You will be
able to find a copy of the ‘Week 5/6’ home learning grid under our home
learning folder in One Note. All students will receive a hard copy to glue into
their exercise books.
Please ensure
your child is organised and staying on top of their Home learning Grid through
regular discussions and checks. Please feel free to contact me if you require
any clarification regarding the grid.
Enjoy the week,
Mr Jones
