Term 3, Week 1


Hi Parents and students,

Welcome back to Term Three! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday, whether you went abroad or stayed local. Hopefully the awesome winter weather we had during the holidays returns very soon because it is pretty miserable at the moment!!!

Confirmation:

A parent Information night has been scheduled for Week 2, Thursday 26th July at 5:00pm for all students and parents (at least 1 parent to be present) that are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Commitment Mass will be on the Saturday, 28th July at 6:00pm.

If you are not able to make either of the above dates, you will need to see Father Ian to make alternate arrangements.

Literacy:

Under this section you will find the literacy learning intentions for the week.

CAFÉ-R (Traits of good readers)

This term, as part of our reading group rotations, we will be undertaking a novel study. I have decided on 3 different novels to cater for the different learning needs of the children. Each week, the students will be focussing on a certain number of chapters and they will be required to answer a number of comprehension questions, a cross-curricular activity and a reading response. Some of this work may need to be completed at home, so keep an eye out for this in their diaries. Each student will begin a ‘Novel Study’ exercise book and all work will be completed in this.

To begin the term, the comprehension strategy we will focussing on is ‘synthesising’. Synthesising is when our thinking grows and changes as we read. It is an important strategy as it helps us to see how different things we know about fit together.

Voices (Traits of good writers)

As well as completing our Saint Reports, we will be exploring procedures over the next few weeks.

Numeracy

Under this section you will find the Numeracy learning intentions for the week.

Over the next two weeks, we will be learning about decimal fractions.

Home Learning Grid:

A new home learning grid will be given out today. Please note that there is a new section for the novel study. This will be due Friday 28th July. Remember that your signature is now required in your child’s diary.

Chrism Mass - Tuesday 27th March

Hi Parents, The note below is being sent home today. Please cut and fill in the permission slip and return to me by Monday 26th March. The Inter School Swimming Team will receive theirs tomorrow. Mr Jones 22 nd March, 2018 Dear Parents, RE: Chrism Mass – Tuesday 27 th March We will be travelling to Bunbury on Tuesday 27 th March to participate in the Chrism Mass that is held at the Bunbury Cathedral. Mass will begin at 11am and will conclude at approximately 12.15pm. A short tour of the Cathedral will follow. The purpose of this Mass is to consecrate the Oil of Chrism that is used during the Sacrament of Confirmation and bless the Oil of the Sick used for the Anointing of the Sick. The sign of Confirmation is the Oil of Chrism, the most sacred of the oils. During the Confirmation ceremony, a person is anointed on the forehead with Chrism. Week 3 - Term 4

Good afternoon parents, Welcome to Week 3, I hope you all enjoyed the amazing weather that was put on for us over the weekend!! REMINDERS - WEEK 3 Confirmation Home Mass - This is on next Monday 30th October and is being hosted by the Tutt family. We will begin promptly at 6pm, we ask that you arrive by 5.45pm to smooth the logistics of food and drinks etc. I am sure that Sherylee will appreciate food being pre-warmed if possible and any extra hands! Guitar - A reminder that your child needs to bring their guitar each week to their lesson with Mr Torrese on Thursday afternoon's. Their lesson runs from 2-3pm and it is very important that all students have their guitars.  Peace Posters - These are due in on Monday 30th October. I am so impressed with the work of many of the students in their interpretation of 'The Future of Peace'. This week the students will write a quote to go with their piece.
