Term 2 - Week 5
Hi Parents,
I hope you all
had a fantastic weekend. It looks like we have another great week of weather
ahead of us and what great timing for the Margaret River Pro.
Quote of the Week:
RECONCILIATION
WEEK / NATIONAL SORRY DAY
National Reconciliation Week is held from
27 May to 3 June each year. It is a time for all Australians to reflect on our
shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can
join the national reconciliation journey. Reconciliation must live in the
hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a
nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian
community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
A whole school mass will take place in the hall on
Friday at 09:00am. This will be run by the Year Five and the Year Six Catholic Ministry.
We would love to see you there.

Literacy:
Under
this section you will find the literacy learning intentions for the week.
CAFÉ-R
(Traits of good readers)
We will be focusing on the comprehension strategy of
scanning this week. Scanning is when readers look only for a specific fact or
piece of information. It is a useful strategy because it allows us to find
details and other information in a hurry. This skill will be helpful when the
students begin to research their topics to write an information report.
Voices
(Traits of good writers)
All the students are writing the draft copies of their country
information report. All the countries will begin their Cricket World Cup appearances
soon. England kick things off on Thursday against South Africa. Go the Aussies!
Numeracy
Under this section you will find the
Numeracy learning intentions for the week.
We will be investigating lines and angles this week.
The students will learn to classify the different types of angles, as well as
how to correctly use a protractor to measure an angle.
Next week, we will be learning about area. The students
will learn about square units and the formula for finding area. They will then
be given the opportunity to apply the formula to irregular and composite
shapes.
Have a great week!
