Term 1, Week 9

Hi Parents, What a fantastic weekend of Autumn weather! I hope you managed to get out and about to enjoy this spectacular place in which we live. Quote of the Week: HARMONY DAY A massive thanks to everyone who contributed to the shared morning tea. There was so much food to choose from and the kids (and myself) enjoyed everything that was on offer. PARENT INTERVIEWS Thank you to all the parents who have written their name in a suitable time slot. A reminder that the interviews are being held in Week 10. GRADUATION SHIRT The graduation shirt design has been sent to Hip Pocket. They will get back to me with the price but last year it was around $10 per child. Once I have a price, I will get the children to bring in their green OLC sports shirt (clearly labelled) and the cash to pay. I will then drop them off to Hip Pocket. COMMEMORATION SITES The students will begin to create their ‘ANZAC SPIRIT COMMEMORATION SITES’ this week. Over the term, we have

Harmony Day

Hi Parents, As part of the celebrations for Harmony Day, the Year Six class will have a shared morning tea. I have decided that the boys will bring in a plate of something savoury  and the girls bring in a plate of something sweet . It would be great if your plate to share is as reflective of your family's culture as possible. You are more than welcome to join us for morning tea! Kind regards, Mr Jones

Parent / Teacher Interviews

Hi Parents, I will be placing the roster for parent interviews on the window in the Year 5/6 wet area tomorrow morning. Interviews will take place in Week 10 and there are multiple times to choose from (morning and afternoon). If you can't make it in to secure your spot due to work commitments, just flick me an email and I'll try and accommodate your preferred time/s.

Board Games

Hi parents, I am putting out a call for any board games that are collecting dust in the cupboard. On a Friday afternoon, any child that has 10 or more Class Dojo points qualifies for 20 minutes of 'Golden Time'. I would like this time to be technology free. If you have a board game that you don't mind lending to the Year Six classroom, could you please send it into school with your child. I will place a STICKER WITH YOUR NAME on it so that it can find its way home safely towards the end of the year. The more games we get, the quicker I can transition the children into a technology free golden time. Thank you in advance! Kind regards, Mr Jones

Term 1, Week 7

Hi Parents, I can’t believe it is already Week 7! Quote of the Week: SKILLS FOR LIFE Every year, the Year Six students participate in a Surf Life Saving ‘Life Skills for Life’ program. Life Skills for Life  is an interactive resuscitation workshop equipping students with the knowledge, skills  and confidence to effectively respond in a first aid or emergency situation. The incursion will run from 9:00am -11:00am on Tuesday. SWIMMING LESSONS A reminder that the ‘white caps’ swimming stage will need to bring extra clothes with them on Wednesday. HOME LEARNING / DIARIES A new fortnight of home learning has begun. Please take the time to sit down with your child and discuss their planning for the next two weeks. Literacy: Under this section you will find the literacy learning intentions for the week. CAFÉ-R (Traits of good readers) This week, we will be focusing on questioning. Questioning is when readers question before, during and after the r

Inappropriate Usage of Technology

Hi Parents, It’s come to my attention that some students are communicating with parents via iMessage throughout the school day. This contact ranges from forgotten items to organising social catch ups after school. Can I please remind you that any form of communication needs to come through Fran via the front office and NOT through your child’s iPad. Please remind your child to disable the iMessage function before their arrival at school each day. Students not adhering to the school policy of appropriate iPad usage will be issued with an iPad infringement notice and a 20 minute behaviour slip. These expectations will be revisited with all students tomorrow. I appreciate your support in this matter. Kind regards, Mr Jones

On the 29 th of March the students of Our Lady of the Cape Primary School will celebrate Harmony Day.   It is our aim to support the development of respect and appreciation for cultures other than their own in the students.
