Welcome to Silver Room 2016

Good afternoon,

I hope that you have all enjoyed a restful break with your families and I hope you are feeling as excited as I am about the year ahead!

I am very much looking forward to having your beautiful children for this year, getting reacquainted with them and seeing how much they have been learning!

Please see below for a few important housekeeping items .

Year 6 Blog -

I have found that this is a highly effective way for me to deliver information to students and parents. As it is always there, it is also an easy reference point.

Each week I will post the assigned homework for the week on the blog. Students will be given time in class to write in their diary their homework for the night but I have found that this is a great source of additional information.

I will post on a Monday by lunchtime and I will always send an email letting you know that a post has been added to the blog on any topic.

I will post important information about upcoming events - both class and school based. I will put copies of any letters that have been sent home on here as well as sometimes they go missing!

Books - On Monday when your child arrives at school, I ask that they bring all required items in to class. They can place them at their work space and I will help the students to organise them throughout the day. Please make sure that iPad's are fully charged.

I ask that all items are clearly labelled. If you would like to cover you child's books before Monday; you are welcome to do so but I do not mind if you would rather not.

Guitar - Mrs Horrocks will be taking the students for their first lesson on Monday morning so students will need to bring their guitar with them to school each Monday.

If your child does not have a guitar, Mrs Horrocks will organise one for your child during the lesson.

Uniform - Please make sure that your child comes to school on Monday in their Summer uniform with a neat and tidy haircut. It is important that as Leaders of the school they set the example to other students and this is a great first impression.

Important Dates:

Please see below a few important dates to mark in your diary.

Monday 1st February - Term 1 Begins

Wednesday 3rd February - Opening Mass (Whole School) beginning at 9.30am. This will be held at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Church. Students in Years 2 - 6 will be walking down to the church and all parents are invited to attend.

Friday 5th February - Year 6 Prayer Assembly beginning at 9am. The Year 6 students will be leading the first Prayer Assembly of the year.

Leadership badges will be presented to the Head Boy and Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Girl and Sports Captains for 2016 will also be announced and presented.

It would be wonderful to see as many Year 6 parents in attendance as possible.

Monday 8th February - Swimming Lessons begin. These will be held over a two week period down at the Dunsborough Boat Ramp. A letter will be sent home on Monday 1st February with the relevant information - these will need to be returned to school immediately to facilitate the organisation of swimming stages and instructors etc.

Our school day during the swimming period will run as normal including all specialist learning areas.

Monday 15th February - Parent Information Evening. Please mark this date in your calendar, further information will be given in the coming days.

Wednesday 24th February - Year 6 Leadership Retreat Day. This will be facilitated by Sue Barton who also runs the Confirmation Retreat later in the year.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to explore their understanding of Leadership and how they can see themselves contributing as a leader of the school this year.

Further information will be sent home about this in the coming weeks.

Monday 16th - Friday 20th May - Year 6 Camp.

This year we will be going on Camp at DARE Adventure Camp, Dwellingup in Term Two. Additional information will be sent home later in the term.

I am looking for two parents to join us on this amazing week. I would like to have 1 male and 1 female parent. If you are interested in coming with us, please send me an email as soon as possible. I will make a list of those that are interested and we will draw the lucky names out of the hat! I thank you in advance for your support!

If you have any questions on any of the above, please come in and see me on Monday or send me through an email.

Enjoy the weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Kind Regards

Caitlin Delane
