Week 2 - Term 3

Good afternoon parents,

Welcome to Week 2!

It is a busy couple of weeks ahead, please make sure that you are checking the blog or emails regularly to stay up to date with what is required.

REMINDERS

Confirmation

Parent Letters - thank you to those parents that have already given me their letters for their child to receive at our Retreat.

If you have still not given this in, please do so as soon as possible.

Sashes - please make sure that you are working on these in the coming weeks. Alternatively, I sent out an email last Friday to let parents know that Mark Phillips has coordinated with Names Plus in Busselton to embroider the sashes in a central run for a set price.

If you would like to take advantage of these - please send in your child's sash, $35 and the Order Form by tomorrow.

A copy of the Order Form will go home with your child today.

Confirmation Week

During the week leading up to Confirmation on Sunday 7th August the children will be engaged in the following activities in addition to our normal learning programme.

Wednesday 3rd August - Confirmation Retreat 9am - 1.30pm - your child can wear free dress on this day. Please make sure they dress warmly and comfortably as the Hall can be cold.

Alicia Higgins is coordinating the items required, please check in with her if you haven't heard from her already.

Confirmation Rehearsal - We will head down to the Church on Wednesday afternoon 1.30 - 2.55pm to go through the procedure for morning with the students.

Thursday 4th August - Confirmation Reconciliation - 9.15am - 10.15am. The students will travel by bus to attend Reconciliation with Fr Ian. This is a wonderful time for the students to reflect on receiving the Sacrament.

Fr Tony Visit -11.30 - 12.45pm. Fr Tony will be confirming the candidates on Sunday morning and he will be coming to meet with the students to get to know them better and share some time and answer any questions the students might have.

Friday 5th August - Confirmation Rehearsal at the Church 1.30 - 2.55pm. The students will be bussed down to finalise any last minute details.

Year Books -

On Friday, the students and I discussed that they will be creating Year Books to help them to remember the time that they have spent at OLC. All students were given a copy of the required items with due dates for completion. This will help them to stay on top of things and not get overwhelmed!

They will need to bring in photos (already printed) and any embellishments they might like to use. I will provide the coloured card for students to use. Students are welcome to draw their pages rather than buy things to add on to them.

If your child would like a copy of any photos they will need to bring in a large, clearly labelled USB which I can use to transfer the photos on to. They will not be individualised so it will be up to the student to find the photos they would like.

This is not meant to be an expensive activity and I have encouraged the students to think about the number of photos that they might need or want before asking for multiple photos to be printed.

Please make sure that all items are sent in a bag that is clearly labelled with your child's name - previously we have had items mixed up as they weren't stored correctly. Plastic bags tend to rip and have items fall out.

OUR LEARNING

This term in our Literacy lessons we have been looking at different forms of poetry. We have learnt about the Literary Devices that are used in poems and we have created an Acrostic and a Couplet poem which are currently on display in our room.

We have just begun working on Noun Poems which are proving to be a source of great fun!

In Religion we have been talking about The Pentecost Story, which shares how the Holy Spirit came to the disciples and helped them to be understood by others which meant that they could go further to spread the story of Jesus.

In Maths we have been incorporating some review work into each lesson, this is something that a number of Maths teachers do during their lessons at Mackillop so I felt that it was a great way to review material that had been covered previously!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 2

Please see below the Homework that has been assigned for this week.

Please make sure that your child is spending some time working on their assigned Mathletics tasks each week. These are important to review or consolidate work that is being done in class. I can only set 10 tasks per week and I am unable to set anymore until they have completed them.

Your child should be doing 5-10 minutes per night.
