Welcome to Week 3!

Good afternoon,

Welcome to Week 3. It promises to be a busy one as we finalise our preparations for Camp next week.

REMINDERS

Uniforms - Just a friendly reminder that your son/daughter should be in full winter uniform by this week. For the boys it means the long pants with the white short and the girls are wearing their skirt and blouse.

Please make sure that they are predominantly white sneakers as per the OLC Uniform Policy.

Camp Forms - If you can please make sure that you have filled in the permission slip and medical form and return it to me as soon as possible. I am unable to take your child on camp without it. Those students that have no yet returned their forms have been given new copies to take home today.

Please make sure that the $300 payment is made to the office by Friday 12th May.

Please send in two packets of biscuits with your child by Friday 12th May - many thanks to those families that already have.

I will send a separate post out later in the week with the last minute details for camp.

Mothers Day Breakfast - This will be held on Friday morning, please see the invitation sent from Fran Marrell. Please check that you have sent in your RSVP.

OUR LEARNING

We have begun the term looking at the Persuasive writing genre. We have been discussing the purpose of Persuasive texts, the structure and necessary language features and today we continued our work in looking at the devices that should be used.

In our discussions, the students are very keen to begin working on their own pieces and I am helping them to understand that we must first understand the preparation required before they can begin writing well...stay tuned for some very persuasive arguments!

We had our first Friendology session on Friday, which was absolutely amazing!!! The Year 5 and 6 girls came together with myself and the Year 5 and 6 boys worked with Mr Danaher.

We had an excellent discussion about the importance of finding out who we really are and feeling comfortable to share that with others. We also talked about the influence that the media has on shaping what we see as the 'perfect girl' and the 'perfect guy'. We watched some excellent clips which looked at how we can celebrate our differences and embrace who we are!

The girls particularly liked this one, take a few minutes to have a look if you can.

I encourage you to ask your son or daughter about their sessions each week to keep up to date with all our conversations! We are keeping our journals in which the students will store their thoughts and learning from our Friendology program.
