Week 5 Update

Good morning parents,

Welcome to a windy Week 5!

REMINDERS - WEEK 5

Mission Markets -Feast of the Assumption - Tuesday marks our school feast day and the Assumption of Mary. This is a  day dedicated to Mary our Mother and to celebrating our school.

The morning will begin with a whole school mass (parishioners will also attend) in the hall at 9.00am. This will conducted by visiting priest Fr. John Finlayson. Please make sure that your child brings their spending money in a sealed bag or wallet/purse in smaller coin denominations.

Please send in your donation of 2 bags of chocolates or wrapped lollies with your child tomorrow if you have not already done so.

The format of the day will be as follows:

9.00 - 10.00 School Mass

10.00 -11.00 Classroom activities on Mary

11.00 - 11.20 Recess

11.25 - 11.45 Kindy & Pre-Primary students to visit markets on their own with Year 6 assistance.
11.45 - 12.45 Mission Markets.

12.45 - 1.25 Lunch

1.30 - 2.50 Rotational Games

Students are to wear their sports uniform tomorrow.

Stationery Check - can I ask that you please do a stationery check for your child. There are many students that do not have blue or red pens that work, rulers, glue or scissors. This makes it difficult for students to complete their work as requested as they are having to borrow items from other students.

Confirmation Certificates - these are currently with Fr Ian being signed. I will have them returned as soon as possible.

Thank you to all of the parents that were able to join us for coffee and cake on Friday to celebrate Confirmation!

OUR LEARNING

In our Literacy lessons this week we are putting together an Information Report about weather, we have been looking at the purpose, structure and language features on an Information Report.

Students will use these skills to complete the modeled writing activity before moving on to planning an Information Report about one of their pets. I have asked students to be extra observant with their pets in the coming days so that they will have lots of facts to include about their pet.

In our Maths sessions we have been looking at decimal fractions, including shading a given decimal, ordering decimal numbers from largest to smallest as well as writing fractions as decimals and mixed numbers. The students have been working well on this topic and have improved a great deal in their understanding and application!

Thank goodness for pizzas...they are very helpful in explaining these topics! We also looked at that in order to change a fraction to a decimal we needed to divide the numerator by the denominator, which has proved a bit of a challenging concept but we are getting there!
