Term 4, Week 7

Hi Parents,

Week 7 is already upon us and before we know it, the Year Six class will have graduated from OLC.

Quote of the Week:

Fire Drill - Tuesday 26th November
Just a reminder that there was an important email sent out last week outlining the plans for this afternoon. Please check in to make sure you are ready for this.

MARY MACKILLOP ORIENTATION DAY

Students attending Mary MacKillop next year will be spending Thursday at the college. I know some kids are catching the bus with their older siblings or peers. This is a great opportunity for the kids to show a little independence and responsibility. If you’re planning on dropping your child off, it might be an idea to get in contact with some other parents to organise a group of them to catch the bus together. Best of luck to both students and parents!

GRADUATION MASS / AWARDS
You would have already received a ‘save-the-date’ flyer for the upcoming Graduation Night and I’m sure the Year 5 parents will be sending out formal invitations soon. However, the Year 6 Graduation is on Friday 6th December, starting with Mass at the Church at 5:30pm, followed by dinner in the Hall at school beginning at approximately 7:15pm

Dinner will be served at 7:45pm and the dance off on the disco floor will conclude at approximately 11:00pm. Please make sure appropriate footwear is worn and good times are had by all.

YEAR SIX FINAL EXCURSION
The Year Six Final Excursion has been ear marked for Thursday, 12th December. Two places have been tentatively booked (Gravitiy and Xcape the Cape), but I haven’t told the kids yet as I would like to keep the activities a surprise for another week or so.

ALL EXPENSES will be covered by the school so there will be no out of pocket expense for you. I am currently thinking of cancelling the bus back to school and allow parents to spend the last hour (3:00pm – 4:00pm) with their child at Xcape the Cape (entry is free for spectators).

This means, that an alternative lift for your child will need to be organised if you can’t make it in time.

WHEELIE, WALKIE, WASTE-FREE WEDNESDAY
We encourage OLC to continue with this great initiative.

HOME LEARNING / DIARIES
A new fortnight of home learning has begun. Please take the time to sit down with your child and discuss their planning for the next two weeks.

The following should be included in the diary:

Everyday:
·       Reading
·       LSCWC (x4 per list of words)
·       Times Tables
·       Physical Activity

Students Choose When:
·       Mental Maths (Unit 31 and 32)
·       Spelling (Definitions)

Home Life:
·       Teach you parents something (x2)
·       2 x technology free afternoons
·       Help with dinner preparations

Please ensure that your child is ticking their diary once an activity has been completed.

Literacy:
Under this section you will find the literacy learning intentions for the week.
Voices (Traits of good writers)
The students are currently typing the final copies of their explanations on navigating the high seas. They have done a really great job!

Numeracy
Under this section you will find the Numeracy learning intentions for the week.
This week, we will be challenging our algebraic thinking. Hopefully the students will be able to come home and teach you a thing or two that may have been discarded from the memory bank long ago!

Have a great week!

Mr Jones
