Week 6!

Good morning parents,

I hope that you enjoyed the Long Weekend...I can see that many of the students are very worn out after a busy weekend getting up to all sorts!

Just a couple of reminders for the week.

Peron Reserve - Friday 11th March. Please make sure that your child has signed and returned the permission slip needed. We will be heading to Peron Reserve on Friday afternoon at 1.30pm to help oil and tidy up the viewing platform as well as enjoying a bush walk in which Mrs Hughes will share some of her extensive knowledge about the area and local flora and fauna.

If you can make sure that your child has a shirt that can be used to cover their uniform.

Year 6 Family Mass - Saturday 19th March. Thank you to those people that have returned their forms. If you are unable to attend, can we please ask that you still return the form so that we are aware.

Caritas Boxes - If you can please support and encourage your child to bring in a small donation to the Caritas Australia box on our prayer table,

Our Learning

In our Literacy time we have been enjoying reading Rowan of Rin. We have been looking at ways to share information about the characters in our writing in a way that helps the reader to use their imagination!

In Religion for the past couple of weeks we have been looking at our understanding of Lent and ways in which we can contribute and make a difference. We are making a Lenten Tree of Action for display in class which shows ways we can participate more fully in our faith through prayer, self-denial and helping others.

This will be up for display in class by Thursday - please come in and take a look!

In Maths this week we will be looking at Multiplication Strategies using the formal algorithm for one, two and three digit numbers. We will then move to using fractions to find answers through multiplication.

In our Geography sessions we have had some fantastic discussions which I hope have made it to the dinner table about the health and wealth of the world's population.

We have been discussing ways that being poor can affect how children grow up as well as learning about what it means to be a developed, developing or less developed country and what the standard of living is like.

Hopefully the students are showing their appreciation for many of the things that we are able to access! These topics have prompted some interesting discussions and some dropped jaws for sure!

This ties in well with our school wide focus on Caritas as a tangible way that the students can contribute and make a difference to a community.
