Welcome to Week 5!

Good afternoon,

It has been a great start to the week with the students settling into work beautifully this morning. I am sure they are all very worn out after a busy few weeks!

REMINDERS

Year 6 Leadership Retreat - this is on this Friday 3rd March beginning after assembly at 9.30am. Students are to wear free dress on this day.

Our lunch coordinators have put together a menu which I have placed on the board in our room. If you can please add your name to it by Wednesday afternoon. Your child can take a photo on their iPad to bring home and you can let them know what you can do and then they can write your name down. A massive thank you to all for your help with this, it is greatly appreciated!

Peron Reserve Excursion - please make sure that you have signed the permission slip and given it to your child to return.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Mary Hughes (a founding member of the Friends of Peron Reserve) came in to talk to us about the work that they have done in the reserve and to express her thanks and delight that the students are so willing to help!

Leavers Shirts - I am still waiting on a couple of shirts to come in. The students will vote on the winning design tomorrow afternoon.

OUR LEARNING

During our literacy lessons we have been looking at identifying the language features used in really good narratives. The students are working on activities that helps them to identify these features being used in a given piece of writing. In our reading comprehension sessions, we have been working on answering questions that are literal or inferential about a given narrative.

Looking at good examples of the writing genre as well as having a good understanding of the structure and features help the students to create better pieces of writing. They are raring to go and I am looking forward to reading the narratives that they create!

In our maths lessons, we have been looking at square and triangular numbers as well as how to identify prime and composite numbers. It has been tricky and silent ball has been helpful in helping us to think really carefully! We have also been creating factor trees to help us better understand the difference.

During our geography lessons we have been looking at our Asian neighbours. We have been looking at their location, their position relative to Australia as well as answering questions about the population density, average annual income and life expectancy. This information has prompted some very interesting discussions about the lifestyle differences between Australia, Indonesia, China and Japan.
