Week 10 - Term 3 Update

Good afternoon,

The end of the term has finally arrived, safe travels to those of you lucky enough to be getting away! It has been a busy term and the students have worked well and will enjoy the break.

REMINDERS - WEEK 10

Operation Shoebox Appeal - There is still a large number of students that have not brought their donations in. I understand that at times it can be difficult to find the extras that are asked for but any donation is greatly appreciated. We will be packing these tomorrow.

Term 4 Calendar - Please make a note of the important dates for the upcoming term. Particularly Graduation for those family members you may wish to invite or shopping trips you may need to schedule! It will be on Friday 1st December and further information will be sent out in the first few weeks of Term 4.

Uniforms - Please take some time over the holidays to check that your child's summer uniform fits well and that all items are worn according to our current Uniform Policy.

I understand that with such a short time remaining at OLC you are mindful of not purchasing items that will only be worn for a short time. Our secondhand uniform cupboard is a great place to check first!

Please book in any required haircuts - boys with fringes that fall into their eyes whilst working will need to have them trimmed.

Homework & High School Transition

There is a large number of students not completing or handing in to be checked the required homework. I will be sending an email to those parents directly later today.

A large part of our conversation and routines in class is focused around preparation for high school. These discussions and routines are aimed at preparing students and reducing anxiety by giving them an understanding of what they can expect next year.

I would appreciate it if you could take some time over the coming weeks to check in with your child to see how they are feeling about attending high school.

If they come up with any specific questions or concerns, please let me know so that we can address them in class or I can find out the answer to their question if I don't already know.

Once the Year 7 Coordinator has been finalised at St Mary MacKillop, they will be in touch with me to organise a day to come out and speak to the students directly.

I will also spend time with this coordinator to have some transition meetings in which each child attending SMMC will be discussed and a general overview given including any support that may be required.

OUR LEARNING

A large portion of our week was spent on completing items on our Assessment Schedule. The students were assessed on their Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, Reading Comprehension and Maths. This provides useful data that I will use when I begin writing the student's reports early next term.

In our Literacy lessons we continued working on our Information Reports. These are due for completion tomorrow. Some students are a little further behind with this task and may need to bring it home to complete.

In our Maths lessons we continued looking at Decimals and Powers of 10. This week we have begun looking at 3D Shapes and their nets and characteristics.

In our Religion lessons we spent time discussing places in our local community that individually we consider to be spectacularly beautiful. The students are working on a brochure that highlights these places and encourages people to come and visit! They will be finished later this week and up for display as soon as possible!

Please see the homework for this week outlined below. All homework is due in on Friday morning.
