Week 9 Update

Good morning everyone,

I hope that you have had a chance to enjoy a restful weekend with the busyness of last week now behind us.

What an amazing experience for the students, I was so proud of all of them. They put on three first class performances and wowed everyone that came to watch. I was impressed with their positive attitudes and great manners throughout.

A massive thank you to everyone that helped out through all of last week. The hair, make up, costumes, supper and additional support was greatly appreciated and I am so thankful for all that you did to support the students and I.

I will add more photos as they are available.

REMINDERS - WEEK 9

PAT AssessmentsCan I ask that all students please bring their iPads to school each day and make sure that they are fully charged.

We will be completing our PAT Maths, PAT Reading Comprehension, PAT Spelling and PAT Grammar and Punctuation Assessments as part of our OLC Assessment Schedule this week which allows me to direct our teaching and learning programme for the remainder of the year.

Operation Shoebox Appeal - If you have not already done so, can your child please bring in their donations for this very worthy cause.

All Year 6 students are asked to bring in some personal hygiene items and something special + $2.50. If this can please be in by Tuesday at the latest as we need to have the boxes packed and ready to be sent off by the end of the week.

Year Books - Your child will need to bring these to school on Monday and Friday this week so that I can check on their progress and make sure they have all they need.

Sports Carnival, Jumps and Throws - Our jumps and throws are on this week as well as the students final Sports Carnival at Primary School being held on Thursday.

Please see the news letter for some important information regarding recess and lunch orders on the Thursday.

Students are asked to wear their faction shirts on Wednesday and Thursday.

OUR LEARNING

In between our rehearsals and performances, the students have been working very hard at practicing their reading comprehension skills as well as drafting their informative texts. I expect that students will have these finished by the end of this week for you to have a look at next week!

In our Maths lessons we have been looking at addition and subtraction of decimals as well as multiplication and division of decimals. Later in the week we began looking at Decimals and powers of 10.

We discussed the importance of how when we multiply by 10, 100 or 1000 we are making the number bigger therefore we move each digit two or three places larger and when we divide by 10, 100 or 1000 we are moving each digit two or three places smaller.

We have been looking at how Australia is governed and the responsibilities of each level of Government which has prompted some very interesting discussions!

We will also begin looking at developing a Growth Mindset and how working on this can helps us understand that as learners we don't know it all yet! I will be sharing a weekly video with the students that will help them to understand how they develop their Growth Mindset to assist them when learning is difficult.

The first idea that we will look at is 'The Brain is a Muscle'. If you would like to watch the video, check out the link below!
