Term 1, Week 3

Hi Parents and students,

Welcome to Week 3!

With 2 weeks already down and our swimming lessons now complete, I officially declare the Year Six Class, open for business!

I hope you had a fantastic weekend and are ready for a busy week ahead.

Below you will find some important information, upcoming events and learning intentions for the week.

Affirmation of the Week:


Parent Information Night:
I hope to see you all on Tuesday evening for the Year 6 Information Night. The evening will begin at 5:00pm in the hall. Classroom sessions will start at 5:30pm. Please make your way to the Year 6 classroom as swiftly as possible. If you are unsure where the Year 6 classroom is, look for the room with a view J

Ash Wednesday:
This Wednesday signifies the beginning of Lent. The staff and students will participate in a service to mark this occasion Students from the Catholic Community Ministry will assist on the day.

Literacy:

Under this section you will find the literacy learning intentions for the week.

Over the past week, the Year 6’s have been becoming familiar with ‘VOICES’ and ‘CAFÉ-R’. I will explain in a little more detail (parent night) on what this means but in short, ‘VOICES’ refers to the traits of good writers and ‘CAFÉ-R’ refers to the traits of good readers. Both of these will form the foundation of the Literacy Program this year.

The spelling program ‘Words Their Way’ will begin this week. All students have been tested and placed in groups according to their individual needs.

The students will begin to plan their first narrative for the term.

Numeracy:

Under this section you will find the Numeracy learning intentions for the week.

The students have completed a pre-test for the concepts that we will be covering this term. This allows me to cater for each child's individual learning needs. The same test will be given at the end of the term and the students will be able to see first-hand, the progress they have made.

This week, we will be covering the concept of ‘reading and understanding numbers’.

Home Learning Grid:

You can find a copy of the current Home Learning Grid via 'OneNote' on your child's iPad. They will also receive a hard copy. This copy will be glued into their Home Learning Exercise books for you to sign. I will explain this in more detail on Tuesday night.

Hi Parents and students, What a great weekend to be down south! So special to be able to witness such a unique swell direction and see the whole coastline light up. Can’t wait for the next cyclone swell in 9 years! Affirmation of the Week: Camp: I am still on the hunt for some dad volunteers for the Year 6 camp. Let me know if you are interested. Chrism Mass: Please make sure your child has brought their permission slip into me tomorrow morning. Some children have suggested that they have misplaced their note. Week 6

Good afternoon, Welcome to Week 6...I can't believe how quickly the term is getting away from us! Notes - Graduation Dinner, iMovie Night & Adventure World Thank you to those who have returned notes. If you have any to return, can you please send them in by the due date. I have placed copies of all notes sent home last week on the blog. At this stage you can't print them off directly so please see me if you need another copy. Mackillop Orientation Day - 25th November - I will put on the blog a copy of the letter (in a separate post) that was sent home by Mr Ben Horrocks a few weeks ago for your reference. For those students not attending Mackillop in 2016, please note that your child is welcome to stay home and enjoy a day working on their Year Books. If your child will be coming on the day to OLC on the 25th November, can you please advise me as soon as possible. Final Reminders for Tomorrow

Good afternoon, Just a couple of reminders for tomorrow... Students are to come in free dress with clothing appropriate for the beach...thongs are fine.  Please make sure your child comes with suncream already applied, packed recess and lunch, towel and a hat. All students must wear a rashie! We will arrive at the beach at 11.45am. We will have lunch when we arrive and then we will hit the activities. You are welcome to join us for any part of the day...your child permitting!! We will be departing at approximately 2.30pm to come back to school.  Reports will be handed to the students back at school at the end of the day. Students are welcome to bring their Leavers shirts and graduation books to be signed. They can bring iPads to get the last of the photos from Tuesday...they will be deleted on Monday.
