Week 2 News

Good morning,

Thank you for a fantastic start to the term...we have hit the ground running and I am very impressed with the mature and positive attitude that the students have brought to the year.Thank you for all that you have done to get them ready for the school year.

Literacy Work -

Our spelling and writing work has kicked off in well with looking at how important it is to focus on the correct spelling of given words. We have also had some fantastic conversations about how to write a 'GOOD' narrative. We have looked at the structure and language features of a narrative and the students are very excited about the work to come.

We are reading the novel Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda and the students are loving the themes that we are drawing out. We have looked at the importance of the Visualising strategy to help us to comprehend what we are reading.

Maths Work -

We have been looking at a variety of topics so far this year beginning with understanding Place Value to the thousands and thousandths, Expanding Numbers and reviewing addition and subtraction strategies. Mathletics tasks are assigned to individually extend or support students with work on these areas.

In our Geography lessons we have begun looking at the Global Population and the way that it is spread throughout the world.

In Religion we have begun discussing the approaching Lenten season and the ways that we can enrich our faith through participating more mindfully as we prepare for Easter.

Please see below for some important information and the homework that has been assigned for this week.

Parent Information Evening - this date has changed from my last post. It will now be held on Thursday 11th February beginning at 7.15pm in Silver Room. If you are unable to attend, please let me know. The booklet containing all relevant information will be sent home on the Friday.

Water Safety - it has been brought to my attention by a concerned parents that a blue ring octopus has been found in the area sheltering in a small shell. It might be worth checking with your child to make sure they know what they look like, that they are careful when picking up any objects at the beach and also to familiarise yourself with First Aid procedures in case of an injury.

Ash Wednesday Mass - we will be celebrating Mass as a whole school for Ash Wednesday tomorrow beginning at 9am in the Hall. It would be lovely to see as many parents as possible in attendance.

Leavers Shirts - the students are busily creating their submissions for their Leavers Shirts for 2016. Mr Mark Phillips is assisting us with the design and creation of these. Further information will be sent home in the coming days.
